KOAS (formerly known as Studio Syd) is a studio collective, gallery and creative meeting place for neurodivergent and disabled artists, located in Sorgenfri in Malmö. The organisation started in 2025, and is run by Malmö Konsthall as a three-year project with finansing from Allmänna Arvsfonden. The goal is that KOAS will one day be a permanent arts organisation.
14 artists currently work in the studio collective, where they have access to professional artistic support that is adapted to their personal ambitions and creative goals. KOAS is an arts organisation – not a disability support organisation – and works to promote the independence, rights and artistic development of the artists.
KOAS is part of an international movement that works to ensure that neurodivergent and disabled artists can work professionally and on their own terms. The organisation is built upon many years of research and knowledge-exchange with similar initatives around the world.
KOAS is supported by Allmänna Arvsfonden, MKB Fastighets AB, Region Skåne and Malmö Konsthall.

Why KOAS?
In the winter of 2025 we changed our name from Studio Syd to KOAS.
KOAS stands for konst-oas (art-oasis). The idea behind it is that we want to create a free, safe and inclusive space for artistic exploration. KOAS is an oasis in a chaotic world.
